Very interesting TED Talk I came across a while back about how Google and Facebook control the flow of information for their users and how these corporations' algorithms decide what we see on the Internet. The end of the video also speaks to the importance of today's internet for information transmission.

Just goes to show the idea of free flowing information is one that has been undermined by the aspect of capital and the need for profit. What seems to be forgotten in web 2.0 is that all these major websites exist to make money, they are not your friends, to them you are just a potential profit, nothing more.
